A Sorter is an automatic system that produces a stream of goods (e.g. packages, containers) and selectively distributes them to various target paths.
Products pass through a scanner, which reads the target information. The controller then directs the product to its intended destination slide or path. The discharge is carried out by mechanisms such as tilting trays (Tilt tray sorter) or swivel wheels (Swivel wheel sorter).
Sorters are at the heart of parcel and mail distribution centers, e-commerce warehouses and return centers. They enable orders to be compiled quickly and precisely for various delivery routes.
The main advantage is a huge increase in sorting speed and accuracy. Sorters can process thousands of units per hour, reduce the error rate and enable a highly efficient and scalable shipping process.
